Un dimanche à Paris :: Marche Raspail

Monday, October 28, 2013

Sunday morning I woke up with the desire to make more pavlovas.

Pavlovas need fruit, and I didn't have any, so I jumped on the 68 and, for the first time, I went down to the organic markets at Raspail.
I live at the top of Rue des Batignolles and I often go to the organic markets that happen there on a Saturday morning. I encountered many of the producers I usually see there this Sunday, except one.

Right at the southern end was the sweetest bake-shop** stand selling cookies, canelés and English muffins. We took four to make egg and bacon sandwiches for lunch and I took a little canelé to accompany my coffee.

I took my loot of pomegranate, passion fruit and figs home and delicately packaged everything up to take to my friends' cafe to share the (sweet) love. It only occurred to me as I was riding there that taking your own food to a cafe isn't totally kosher...

Luckily for me, and our bellies, they didn't mind too much...

Un dimanche à Londres

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

This week's 'Un dimanche à...' was spent in London, passing one of the most magical Sundays.

The day started with a 6am taxi pick up, destination Hyde Park, to watch my mum compete for Australia at the world triathlon series; not a usual Sunday, nor any day for that matter, occurrence.
The day ended on the other side of the city, and the Thames, with one of the best 'Sunday roasts' I've had the pleasure of devouring at the pup-friendly 'Cutty Sark' pub, named for the British ship that would often frequent Australia in the late 19th century, and a grand stroll around the Greenwich observatory. Mr M and I have decided that we'd very much like for this part of the world to be our home in the not too distant future...

This post marks the first in a few I'll post as a series on the trips I've recently taken and will take shortly. After working my little tush off all summer I had managed to plan, book and take four trips over the course of 28 days. I'm currently three trips down, I'll go with my mum on Saturday to Belgium for the weekend. It didn't really dawn on me that I would be away so often and frequently until it started to feel like I was never here! Which I actually haven't been, on this little blog, but that'll be changing soon, for sure.

Un Lundi à Versailles

Monday, August 12, 2013

Yesterday's usual Dimanche post has instead given way this week to a Lundi post. Today was spent lunching and wandering around Versailles with Melanie

After taking the L train, that runs right behind my apartment, to Versailles Rive Droite on other side of the main entrance to the castle, you make your way along the edge of the gorgeous town of Versailles before arriving at some formidable gates, to find yourself in the forest where Marie-Antoinette once frolicked with sheep and Louis XVI once hunted deer. You make your way through the forest, where you are able to wander freely to marvel the Trianon, Petite Trianon and Hamlet, towards the gardens proper, which are fee-free from the top of the Grand Canal, to hire rowboats and bikes to properly explore the whole park. This sneaky, 'back entrance', to the village and castle grounds has quickly become my favourite way to visit the once capital of royalty in France. From St Lazare it's just 30 minutes to Versailles, handy when I live just up the road from the gare

The L train also does a fantastic loop around the western site of Paris, which gives you an amazing view of the city and a certain special Iron Lady.

Melanie has just completed putting together her new social coaching programme on nutrition and fitness - which looks fantastic! If you've been keen to kickstart a new healthier way of living, or have not given it a second thought, but now you are, head over to the progrmme's site and watch her presentation; you will be sold on needing to participating in this programme. There will even be a special guest appearance by Kristen from The Kale Project
Melanie travels to Paris so often to visit clients and and to catch up with people including, on occasion, me, that it was fun to return the favour! Espcially when Navigo travel is still free until Aug 18! I'll have to get a couple more trips done this week!
